LAPD Community-Police Advisory Boards (CPABs)
I am currently a volunteer on the West LA CPAB.
CPAB volunteers serve as a bridge between the community and the LAPD. Their role is to strengthen trust, share information, and ensure local voices are part of public safety decisions. Some of their main responsibilities include:
Community Representation: Volunteers bring forward concerns, priorities, and perspectives from residents, businesses, schools, and organizations in their neighborhoods.
Advisory Role: They provide input to LAPD command staff on crime trends, quality-of-life issues, and emerging community needs.
Problem-Solving: Volunteers work with officers to brainstorm solutions, develop outreach strategies, and support crime prevention initiatives.
Information Sharing: They help relay LAPD updates and safety information back to the broader community, creating a two-way flow of communication.
Outreach & Engagement: Many CPAB members organize events, promote neighborhood watch programs, and participate in community forums to expand public involvement in safety.
In short, CPAB volunteers aren’t law enforcement officers—they are partners and advisors who help shape how local policing responds to their community’s unique needs.
Below are redacted minutes from recent LAPD West LA division CPAB Meetings. If you are a resident of the patrol area of the West Los Angeles Division and have questions you would like asked at CPAB please use the contact page and get in touch.
